What a great Christmas!! My favorite things were getting everything done by the 24th that I needed to even though that required a one 1 and 1/2 hour night of sleep and several nights of 3-4 hours of sleep!! Christmas things and Relief Society rolled into one can be an interesting juggling act! But I loved everything and was truly blessed to be able to do everything! My most favorite things were being with family! Cheryl wasn't here but through her blog we were able to share her Christmas activities with Abi and Doug! Our family party was awesome and I appreciate the help with the game, Greg's amazing poem!!, and the dessert! And, of course, McKenna's direction of our Nativity production! The movie activity on Christmas Day was so much fun, too! I am just so sorry we had such bad weather to deal with! But everyone made it to the movie and back to our homes safely and I am grateful!! It was wonderful having Greg's family here from Phoenix to join us!

Well, we got a bunch of snow yesterday!! A foot...and I shoveled it all! What a workout, baby! Dad figures I probably lifted several tons of snow! This morning I decided I had better get in a run to help with all the calorie intake lately! When I left it was 12 degrees out and when I got back it was 8! I had thought to do a 5-miler but there was a little wind and I got so cold!!! So I did 3 miles and then came home and did 2 on the treadmill.

I saw Cheryl's blog this morning and the bows you made Abi are awesome, Karen!! I hope Alex is feeling much better now...missed him so much on our movie day!

All of you have a wonderful day! You are so dear to me!!

Snow Snow Snow Snow Snow!

Well, we definately got snow yesterday! 8" of the fluffy white stuff! I generally do the shoveling but have been so busy this winter that Dad has done except for about twice! But I just delivered the Angel Tree gifts from our ward to the African Refugee family (in Sandy) and now it is time to relly play...and catch up on some sleep! Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I got done with everthing I needed too just in the St. Nick of time!!

We hope you all have a great Christmas!! We had such a great King Family Christmas party on Sunday! Family is the greatest gift we have next to having Christ in our lives! We are so blessed and so love being with our kids, their spouses (whom I consider my kids!), and our absolutely wonderful grandchildren. Thanks to Abi for the DVD entertainment (even though she couldn't be here with us!), Brent and Karen for a rousing 6 rounds of Christmas Bingo, Greg for his absolutely fantastic "The Night Before Christmas...King Family Style"! It was awesome!...and to Stephanie for the delicious Pepperminet Mud Pie! We'll see you on Christmas Day for the movie, "Bedtime Stories" and hope it doesn't snow as much as is predicted!!

Hey, guess what?? I forgot to post on my post (say what?) that it is adorable Abi's 3rd birthday today! Happy Birthday Abi! It was fun to sing Happy Birthday to you this morning!! (Hope it was for you, too!?!) I do have to say that I have the most adorable (handsome for the boys!) and wonderful grandchildren in the whole world!! What a lucky grandma I am!! Alex, Tyler, McKenna, Austin, Matthew, Logan, Courtney, and Abi...you rock!! My own kids are pretty wonderful, too! Love you all!
Happy December 13th! Are you shocked I am actually writting?? I decided I had better jot down a few words! I have been so busy with Relief Society and decorating and all the preparations that I have hardly got any sleep lately! Yesterday I kept falling asleep when in the car (Jim was driving!!) and whenever I would try to read or do anything...so last night when 9 p.m. came and I could still hardly keep my eyes open but kept thinking of all I needed to do I made a very wise decision and went to bed and slept till 5 a.m.! I now feel like I have joined the land of the living! I wanted to do up my Christmas letter to go out with my cards last night. If I had done so it probably would not have made any sense at all!! So today I will try to get 48 hours worth of stuff done in 12!! But I told myself at the beginning of preparations for the Holidays that I may have alot to do BUT I wold make every effort to have as much fun as possible and make this a great time...because it is my favorite time of the year!! I really do have to close for today but after the holidays or if I get a chance before then I will write alot more and even try to post some photos! Have a great day and fun holiday!!

It has been a busy month! So sorry for not posting sooner. Like I said it has been busy and very eventful. To add to that I forgot how to post and couldn't figure it out!! ( One of those computer dummies!) But last night Karen told me how to go to my blogspot and post...and voila...here I am! It is late now and I do need to go to bed soon...I am teaching the lesson in Relief Society tomorrow morning...so need to get some shut-eye so I can get up early to go over things...but I will try to get to my blog in a few days and catch up on things and maybe try to post some pictures! "See" you soon! And thanks, Karen!!

Fall Running

Today we went up Hobble Creek canyon for an 8 miler. It was so beautiful with all of the changing colors.

Sunday, July 27, 2008

It is Sunday, July 27th...and I am woefully slow in posting on my blog!! Please excuse! I need serious help with a few things I don't understand about blogging (pictures, etc.) and time to sit and write. I do have good intentions...but other things tend to end up priorities. But Dad, aka. Jim and Grandpa, is fixing Sunday dinner and I had a few minutes to write so thought I would.

On Pioneer Day I ran my first race of the season...a shorter training run...and did the 10K. I was thrilled as my time was (according to my trusty watch chronograph...I hope to get the "official chip time" soon) was 1:08! The last time I ran it a few years ago I did 1:06. I would have liked a faster time (but talk to any runner and no matter what their time they will invariably say "I sure wish I could have done a faster time!!") but am actually thrilled as my times had slowed with an injury I ran on for a long time and with...oh, should I say it? Could it possibly be that I am getting a little older?? and I felt like I would be lucky to run a 1:10-20! So I did better than I expected! My next race will be August 23rd and will be a 1/2 marathon...Hobble Creek...then the St. George Marathon in October!

I mentioned awhile back that I would post the reason for the choice for my blogsite...Sailors Rest! I wish I could post a ship/ocean background with it but I don't know how...later, baby! Anyway, when I met my darling he was in the Navy...gotta love the guy in uniform! We fell in love through letters (he was serving his first Vietnam tour of duty) and later married. I then became a Navy Wife and loved being so! Stephanie, Brent, Greg, and Cheryl joined our family and became wonderful "Navy Brats". Jim served...and we all served alongside him. He served 24 wonderful years. In Bremerton, Washington I served at the Red Cross with a wonderful lady. We knew her husband, a Captain, and their son served under Jim on the U.S.S. Ranger, an aircraft carrier. At one of the Officer Wives activities we went to her home and they had a sign out front at the entrance "Sailors Rest". I loved that designation of their home and property and wanted to use it sometime. Now we are retired and in our own home we have created our own "Sailors Rest" and although we don't have a sign out front...I thought we would use this on our Blog. So there you have it!! My "Officer and a Gentleman" has dinner ready (and no, he was not a Navy Cook!!) so I must retire to the family room and enjoy the delectables he has created. Cooking is something he enjoys and now he has the time to do it! Retirement has it's benefits! So, for now, so long...and I will try to get back before too much time passes! Happy Sunday!

It is a few days later and I still don't have the time to really sit and compose an interesting post...but thought I would still just write a few lines for fun. One of these days I won't be brain-dead with it being my bedtime and having had a busy day...and I will actually write something useful?? Thanks to Cheryl and Karen for their comments! Karen, I love your patriotic background on your blog! One of these days maybe I can do that, too! This weekend (Friday afternoon through Saturday) I am having a girls night out with my mom, Jennifer, and Maureen and we are watching a 5 hr. movie (can't remember the name) written by the same authoress that wrote "Wives and Daughters" and "North and South" (not the civil war series). If it is good I will let you all know. I did a 14-mile training run this morning. My time is not great but with the injury I was running on the past 1 and 1/2 years it played havoc on my form and times. So I need to do alot of track and speed work. Well, I must go for now and get some shut-eye! I was hoping to go on Story-Sorority tonight but it is after 10 p.m. and I want/need to get up at 0400-0430...so goodnight to you all! Sweet dreams!

Beginning

I really want to spend more time writting my blog but I thought I would just put a few notes on to get it started (since Karen helped me get this set up quite awhile back and I was just too busy to take the time to write. This past week my "sailor boy" and I spent the week in Cedar City and St. George at the Utah Shakespearean Festival and Touchan to see plays and musicals. It was so much fun! In a few days I will write more and tell you why we decided to come up with our blog title of "Sailors Rest". As I get a bit more familiar with blogging I will get some neat backgrounds to put up and some more pictures to put on. For now...have patience with me!! Thanks to Karen for helping me get this set up. (And to Cheryl for her help, too. She set up a blog page with two dancing bananas!! And I never did write on that as I was still too confused with blogging! I think "Sailors Rest" will work better!!) So till my next blog...have a great day and know you are loved!
